happy 4th of july!

we had a great day. it was really weird not being home and enjoying all the parade's and bbq's and family time that go along with this wonderful holiday, but we tried to bring some of the good 'ole USA to grenada. we hosted a bbq with good friends and good food(grenada style, which means no watermelon or corn on the cob) but the highlight was our friend duke brought over this beautiful American flag that he recieved when he was in the navy. he got it from the captain of the ship right off of the mast. it was really fun to have a real flag to enjoy! then as dusk hit we enjoyed all the tiny fireflies in our trees. there were so many of them, it was really cool to see and to top it all off as we were cleaning up some of the decorations caught on fire, so we ended up seeing fireworks after all!!
everyday we are so glad we live in America! they are having elections down here for the new prime minister and it is really interesting to see the process of the elections. it only happens once every 5 years so they are all REALLY emotionally involved. each party has a color associated with it so that when they go to vote those that can't read will recognize the color and vote for the right person. we were downtown yesterday trying to get to the fish market and there were hundreds of people with green shirts on waving palm leaves, dancing in the middle of the street and singing a song about the prime minister they were voting for, in this case brenda. we sometimes think that whichever party is the loudest, wins so they will try and out yell each other. and the other morning when I was out running there was a car at 6:30 am with a megaphone on top of it, driving around and talking about the views and opinions of the candidate they were promoting. ben and I thought they should do it like that in the states, what do ya think?? we hope everyone had a good day, enjoy the USA for us, you really appreciate things a lot more when you don't have them!

Happy 4th of July to you as well! It would be odd celebrating and not being in the states, but it looks like you had a great day. Your family is just the cutest. How much longer do you have overseas? It looks like your family has a great time camping. Does that happen every year?

We celebrated two 4ths in Grenada. We had a lot of fun with our American friends, but it was sure nice to be back this year. It's awesome you had a real flag - that would make a huge difference. I do miss the fireflies though.

ah yeah ... Grenada's crazy. Just don't wear yellow or green on Tuesday (election day. And thanks for having us! It was a great way to spend the 4th!

Even though you usually spend it with the Anderson clan, we missed you this year. We had Mike & Mindi, Bryan & JaNae, The Poulsens, Mom & Dad, The Morgans, & The Swifts over on our front lawn for the fireworks. It was great. Glad you were able to celebrate one way or another. By the way we updated our blog, what a shock. Later, Tres
